You Can Have A Dog In The Home

Dogs can be such a joyful addition to a home, but you must care for them properly. Learning about a dog’s needs is key to its health and happiness. Keep reading to learn more about the many things you can do to keep your dog happy.

It’s good to give hugs, but avoid giving kisses. Kisses seem nice, but dogs have very dirty mouths. He probably doesn’t mind eating dirt, enjoys drinking water from the toilet if he can get at it, and tries in vain to clean himself with his tongue. Keep in mind that an animal’s mouth is full of germs. It simply is not true.

Verbal Cues

Your dog speaks to you, but it is through non-verbal cues. Your job is to learn to listen carefully so you understand the message. If your pet hesitates when approaching a person or a pet, don’t push them to go near them. It could end up with someone getting bit. Take heed of these non-verbal cues, and act accordingly.

If you’re taking your pup on a vacation, make sure that you take a picture of him for on your phone. This way, should he get lost, you have a picture you can show others. You can also use the picture to hand our “lost” flyers.

Which breed you need to buy depends on your lifestyle. For instance, if you like to go running, you’re not going to want a little dog that can’t keep up with you. If you prefer to stay at home, seek out a small dog that loves to snuggle on the couch. Keeping a mismatch out of play makes both of you happy.

Don’t get sub-par food for your dog that’s from a bargain store. Cheap brands usually contain preservatives such as sodium and other additives that can be dangerous for your dog’s health. You should contact an animal advocacy group or a consumer awareness program to get some recommendations for quality dog foods. You will see a difference in your dog’s activity level and general happiness when you feed him “good” food.

Rawhide Bones

Give your pooch rawhide bones instead of those from real meat. Real bones can chip and fragments may become lodged in their mouths or digestive tract. Rawhide bones are tested and veterinary approved, and they can benefit your dog’s teeth and gums too. Treat your dog to one regularly.

Do not overlook your dog’s bad behavior. If you don’t address it head on, you will discover that it becomes more difficult to control in the future, possibly with disastrous consequences. Be sure to control and contain your dog to prevent problems with people.

Make sure your dog always has trimmed nails. If they begin to curl under, you dog could experience quite a bit of pain. Purchasing some nail clippers at your local pet store is a good idea. If you don’t feel comfortable trimming them yourself, a groomer can do it for little money.

There’s nothing like the happiness a dog is able to bring to a person’s home. That said, you need to be educated about what it takes to have a happy, healthy dog. Hopefully, the tips you just read can help both you and your pet.
