Use These Ideas For A Bouncing, Happy Dog.

When you’re at a pet store or at the pound you are probably thinking of how great the experience is going to be as soon as you get your dog. You may end up with something else entirely. No matter what, you can find some tips here to help.

Hug your dog, but don’t kiss him. Dog kisses may be seen as cute, but their mouths aren’t all that clean. Dogs dig in trash cans, drink from toilet bowls and sniff and lick various body parts on themselves and other dogs. It is an old wives’ tale that dogs have cleaner months than humans. This is not in the least bit true.

Verbal Cues

Obviously, dogs are unable to sleep. Therefore, you have to pay attention to your canine’s non-verbal cues. If your pet hesitates when approaching a person or a pet, don’t push them to go near them. That could lead to another person or dog being bitten. Look for your dog’s non verbal cues and react accordingly.

Be careful of the ingredients in many flea treatments. A large number of them contain high doses of carcinogens and other hazardous ingredients. Talk to the vet about different forms of treatment that are safer for use around small kids.

You should never give table scraps to your dog. Not only will table scraps turn your dog off on their regular food, but it will also teach them to constantly beg. Table scraps can also be unhealthy and lead to excess weight and digestive problems. While you and your family dine, keep your dog in another room so that table-feeding isn’t an option.

Keep a leash on your dog at all times. There are a number of distractions that could cause your dog to run off into a dangerous situation. You are solely responsible for the dog’s actions and for the dog’s safety as well.

Whenever your dog performs a good action, such as sitting or staying, give it praise and rewards. Always make sure your dog knows when they perform a behavior you wish to see repeated. Your dog will quickly understand that the praise is connected to a certain action.

You don’t want to buy the bargain dog food. Many of the cheapest brands contain additives, preservatives and other things that can compromise the health of your dog. Find an advocacy group that can provide you with a list of vet recommended foods. This will be very helpful to your dog’s health.

Give your pooch rawhide bones instead of those from real meat. Real bones can break into pieces that can then become dangerous due to how sharp and small they can be. Rawhide has been proven to be healthy for your dog. It is excellent for its teeth too, so do not give in to the temptation to give your dog a real bone no matter how hard it begs.

Don’t force your dog to eat something. If you offer him a treat he doesn’t seem to like, do not make him eat it. Get to know your dog better to figure out how you can make it happy.

Vet Appointment

Schedule a vet appointment for the new dog. When you bring them home, schedule a vet appointment. The veterinarian will make sure your pet is as healthy as you think he is and also talk to you about vaccinations. Also see about getting your dog fixed because there are tons of animals in shelters and adding to that problem isn’t good.

If you are in the market for a pedigree pup, you just may find him at the pound. Some owners leave their dogs, which gives you an opportunity to give them a better life. All you have to do is give your local shelter a call, and you can find out which breeds they have. This could help you save the life of a dog.

This advice will prove helpful and ignoring it would be a mistake. Use whatever you’ve learned and apply it and you should have the dog that you’ve always dreamed of owning. If your dog is happy, you will be much more likely to love it unconditionally.
