Tips You Should Know When Dealing With Dogs

The domestication of dogs is ancient, predating most of human history. Humans and dogs are right for each other, something both parties are pleased with. The human’s job is to care for that dog. The following advice will help you keep your dog happy and healthy.

Hugging is okay but kissing should be avoided. Kisses from dogs are adorable, but they’re a lot less cute when you realize how filthy your dog’s mouth actually is. They eat garbage or poop and even sniff other dog’s butts. It’s an old wives’ tale that a dog has a very clean mouth. It certainly isn’t the truth.

Know about what could go wrong with flea treatments if you have a dog. Quite a few of them use ingredients that are very unsafe for kids, including an ingredient that has been linked to cancer. Talk to the vet to determine if there are other options for your dog.

Speak with your vet to determine whether or not certain foods are okay to give to your dog. Some foods can cause sickness or an upset stomach. You should be careful when you are feeding your dog.

Don’t ever give your dog bones. Real bones can break into pieces that can then become dangerous due to how sharp and small they can be. Rawhide is very healthy and will help your dog develop some strong teeth. Never ever give him a real bone!

Always correct any bad behavior you see in your dog as soon as you see it. You should never ignore bad behaviors when they are puppies because this will make it a lot harder to correct down the road. Your dog could hurt somebody, including you, so keep him under control.

Avoid leaving your pup outside all day. This is common for people to do, but dogs should interact with others. Especially if it’s only one dog, it can get very lonely. Also, when the weather gets bad, you need to keep your dog inside.

Show your dog that you love him. Owners tend to focus on the bad times, not the good. With dogs, this can lead to trouble. You should mostly focus on praising and petting your dog when you notice a good behavior. Your dog will be far more likely to try to behave properly.

Dog Owners

Get involved with politics and stick up for your dog! Watch local legislation that passes to see how it regulates or restricts the rights and behavior of dog owners. These regulations often exist because of bad behaviors from a few dogs of a certain breed. Make sure that your voice is heard on behalf of other dog owners.

It is not uncommon for dogs to get cuts on their paws from stepping on pieces of glass and debris. If your dog gets a small cut, wash it with an antiseptic and place a bandage around the area. If it is a very deep cut, you should take him to a vet.

Schedule a visit to the vet for your dog on a regular basis. He should visit once a year for tests, weighing and vaccinations. A puppy will have to visit the vet more frequently. You need to go to the vet as soon as your dog seems sick or hurt.

Your responsibility is to care for your dog and meet its needs. The information you have read should get you well on your way to being a great dog owner. Just put the tips to work in your life, and you’ll see that your dog is even happier.
