In Hot Water About Your Dog? Climb Out With This Advice

When you enter a pet shop, you may have a gentle, obedient type of dog in mind that you want to purchase. You may end up with something else entirely. Even so, you are now responsible for caring for the dog, so learn the ropes from the article that follows.

Make your home dog-proof. Before you bring a new dog home, make sure the whole area is safe. All cleaning materials and drugs must be put away, and put your trash receptacle inside a cabinet. Many common household plants are poisonous, so keep them away from your dog or get rid of them.

While hugging your dog will make both of you feel great, refrain from kissing him. In theory, giving a dog a kiss is cute, but realize that the mouth of a dog is generally very dirty. They eat garbage or poop and even sniff other dog’s butts. There is an old wives’ tale that says that the mouth of a dog is cleaner than that of a human. It is not necessarily true.

Always, have your dog spayed or neutered. Studies have shown that this leads to the pet living a longer and much healthier life. Spayed and neutered dogs wander less often as well, so this reduces likelihood of your dog getting hit on the road or lost.

Your dog cannot communicate through speech; therefore, you must learn its non-verbal language. If your dog gets stressed when meeting a new dog or person, don’t force them to meet. That could lead to another person or dog being bitten. Watch out for those non-verbal clues and let your dog guide any actions you perform.

Try not to feed your dog any table scraps. That encourages him to beg and makes him not want his own food. Scraps can be terrible for his diet and lead to obesity and other health problems. You need to make sure your dog is not near the dinner table. This will make it easier for your pet (and you!) to avoid temptation.

It’s a good idea to have your regular dog training sessions in your own yard or at home. Avoid training your dog where many people are present. This may distract your pet which will make it a lot harder to teach it even basic things.

Never allow your dog to leave your yard without a leash even if he seems very trustworthy and calm. Anything can happen, causing your dog to run away or get in a fight with other dogs or even people. You’re responsible for everything your dog does, and for his safety. as well.

Talk to the vet about which foods you should avoid giving the dog. Sometimes you’ll find that a puppy can’t eat certain brands of foods because it will make their stomach upset. Use your vets advice and common sense to feed your dog properly.

If the dog is doing something right, like sitting before he is leashed, lavish him with praise and affection. You want to let your dog know that the behavior is something that you want to see. It also teaches your dog that when he does the things you want, he will get praised.

Talk to your vet about how much your dog should eat. It is important to follow guidelines for the sake of your dog’s health. Ask your vet for some recommendations if you are not sure which brands are best for your dog or need help with quantities.

You’ve just been given a treasure chest full of good advice- don’t throw it away. Apply it on a regular basis, and you’ll see your relationship with your dog improve. The happiest dog will make for the happiest owner.
